Panic! is back, and seem to be aiming for bringing all the parts of the fandom back.
June 9th 2022.
That makes 2/3 of the emo trinity back in action (like seriously Fall Out Boy, where are you?).
I know that people are not all Team Panic! right now. A wave of resentment thats been bubbling ever since Ryan Ross left Panic! combined with a surge in Cancel Culture rose up in a huge wave, did its best to destroy his career, ran him off the internet, and kicked him while he was down and out.
Against all odds however, and despite everything.... nothing really happened.
And then to the fandoms surprise, Panic! at the Disco is back, possibly as a full band again, with another album. How? How do some people get instantly cancelled and others manage to come back repeatedly?
To me its like a preschooler writing with the 5 W's. Who: Brendon is an incredibly skilled musician, who has been prevalent for years, and is the last remaining member of one of the biggest scene bands. What: The worst allegations cant be proven or are disproven, the minutae of minor stuff is brushed off or over-exaggerated by many. When: 10-20 years ago. People like Ronnie Radke, Kevin Hart, J.K. Rowling, Johnny Depp, Ellen Degeneres, Sia, Justin Timberlake, Matt Damon, even Elizabeth Olsen and Tyler Joseph, all have had stuff unearthed or have been criticised for not immediately responding, or responding "wrong" to one thing or another, and yet none of them are really "Cancelled". They all were allowed to keep going, because while yes, many of them lost a shit ton of stuff for a bit until they begged on bended knee in a novel length apology, they were allowed back. Brendon Urie is sttill being bombarded with hate, Tommy Vext's right wing views led to being kicked out of a band where he was the principal writer, and wasn't allowed to take his songs with him, and lastly Marilyn Manson was assumed to be innocent of everything, because everyone thought it was all lies and rumors, allowed to exist and circulate to create the persona, and it took us decades to go "Oh shit, he actually DID this stuff".
I'm not saying I think Brendon Urie is guilty or innocent, what I'm saying is who gets a free pass, who gets to go 100% under the radar, and who instantly is put to career death without trial, and why is there that discrepancy, and even if it is a good thing, who actually SHOULD be allowed to decide?
As for Viva Las Vengance, there is some tongue and cheek in the song. It is a more rock influenced song, Brendon Urie seeminly has added his three main touring members to the official lineup, and there are many references to different ups and downs in the 17 years since Panic! released A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, and to the current state of the world. The song may not be blatantly telling those who hate on twitter to "Shut up and go to bed", but I sure as hell wont tell you its the wrong conclusion to make. Its a jangly, older Panic! eras inspired, guitar driven track, with a beautiful video of comedy, nostalgia, music, cryptic stuff, and cheesy gore.
This is probably one of the best Panic! songs in the past few years, not just because of it's guitars, but in general it's a well written, well recorded, nostalgia invoking bop. I love it, I really do, and while I have no opinions on whether I or others should hate or love Brendon Urie, I say that if he was meant to be cancelled for good, it would have happened, and so after the release of this single, Viva Las Vengance, I will have no problem listening to the upcoming album of the same name and enjoying it when it drops in August, as all of you people have your moral dilemnas or refuse to listen. They are out to bring as many of the fans back as possible, and I dont think they will fail.
Innocent until proven guilty, artist and art aren't inseperable, I love you all, but grow up children.
I give Viva Las Vengance a 99, pending being raised to 100 or lowered to A+

Thanks,
Tyler.
